From the Desk of the Principal:
Dear Parents and Students,
We have been busy preparing for another successful year at Hungerford Elementary, and we are excited to share that we have once again earned a “B” school grade! We are proud of our students, teachers, staff, and families for their hard work as we continue striving toward an “A.”
As the new school year approaches, please take note of these important dates:
- First Day of School: Tuesday, August 11
- Meet the Teacher: Thursday, August 6, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
During Meet the Teacher, families may go directly to their child’s classroom, meet the teacher, sign up for PTO, and receive important information for the upcoming school year.
Good News!
Thanks to our generous Partners in Education, all students will receive school supplies at no cost. Bookbags will also be provided; however, families may choose to purchase one if preferred. A supply list will be available on our website for those who wish to donate additional items.
We will also continue to implement our mandatory uniform policy. Uniform tops are available for purchase in the front office (Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM) and will also be sold during Meet the Teacher. Beginning August 7, the office will reopen on Fridays.
Our goal is to have all students registered before the first day of school. Kindergarten classes are filling quickly, so please register as soon as possible!

STEAM Curriculum Guide – Kindergarten & 1st Grade
Our Kindergarten through first grade students are introduced to STEAM. We focus on building a foundation for the STEAM Program through standalone STEM activities, hands-on science, engineering lessons, and foundational skill activities. At the same time, our students engage in activities in coding with Botley Robots, Code.org, and our Lego Spike Essentials robotics. Students also are introduced to aviation through our flight simulators.
STEAM Curriculum Guide – 2nd & 3rd Grade
Our students in second and third grade engage in STEAM Essential Skills taught through standalone STEM activities, hands-on science & engineering lessons with higher level activities.
Students build on their foundation of coding skills with higher level Code.org lessons (using block coding) and Lego Spike Essentials. We have a 2nd grade Egg Drop project and 3rd grade Popsicle Stick Bridge project.
These students also receive five-weeks of Aviation with flight simulator training using STEM Pilot.
STEAM Curriculum Guide – 4th & 5th Grades
Students in fourth and fifth grade work on reinforcing essential science skills through STEM activities, hands-on science, engineering lessons, and activities such as advanced coding using Code.org and Lego Spike Prime Robotics. They also have 12 weeks of Aviation and flight simulation using STEM Pilot. Other activities include Artificial Intelligence and 3D Printing.

Rich History
Hungerford is a traditional elementary school serving the Town of Eatonville and parts of nearby communities (Winter Park, Maitland and Orange County).
Our school has a long and proud history. The first version of the Hungerford School was founded in 1889 and it is mentioned in Zora Neale Hurston’s Dust Tracks on a Road (1943).
