5th Grade

Dear Parents/Guardians/Supporters!

Where has the time gone?  It was just yesterday that we were asking you to be sure your child read every night and practiced their math facts.  Now we are letting you know that the Florida Standards Assessment is coming real soon.

LANGUAGE ARTS: WRITING/READING:  The FSA for Language Arts will be administered on April 17th and 18th.  Preparing for that assessment is not a cramming session.  We have been teaching the curriculum all year long.  If you have been diligent in making sure that your child has been reading and practicing their work at home, then you should be confident that your child will do well.  If not, then please be certain that they start NOW!  It is not too late!  Reading still works!

MATH:  FSA for Math will be the week following the Language Arts assessment.  Beginning in April, the students will start reviewing all of the standards taught.  Again, please be certain that your child is doing their homework and you are confirming that it is being completed.

SCIENCE:  5th grade has covered all of the science topics.  It is now time to solidify the information they have learned.  March 27, 2017 will be the first day of our Science Shuffle – a full review of all 5th grade science topics.  Each day the students will be reviewing a new science standard and will continue to do so until the end of April.  This should prove very beneficial in preparing them for their science assessment on May 1st.  They must be present to win!

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Social studies standards have been embedded throughout the reading lessons so far.  Students have also been expected to treat each other with model citizenry.  Students will continue with their comprehensive social studies lessons in May.  These lessons will lead us right into the Global Fair, where the students will display and present what they have learned.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Once more, please remember how important it is for your child to be in school every day!  Uniforms, planners, reading logs, and reading material, and any other necessary school items are essential to the daily learning.  Attendance and timeliness remain an issue.  It is very difficult to fully cover a lesson twice; so when your child is absent, your child suffers the loss of that first strong lesson.  Help your child to be as successful as possible.  Be sure to have them in school.  It matters!
